About

This blog belongs to me, Gary Kopycinski. A few years ago I was a distance runner, covering around 1,400 miles a year between training and Marathons and shorter races. My goal is to get back on the trails, work up to a mile again, and start covering ground again.

Back when I was running, I had wanted to write a book, Run Your Ass Off, basically a lighthearted book to encourage others to stay on the trails, and laugh along the way. The book never happened — yet, and I stopped running. I’ll get into why all that happened in the blog.

So, welcome to Run Your Ass Off, my running home on the Internet. I need to get back in shape. My last Marathon was in Pittsburgh, PA, in 2000. It was 75 degrees and 100% humidity at the beginning of the race, and 95 degrees and 100% humidity when I finished. No rain all day: bright, humid, and hot.

That day was also the men’s qualifying run for the Olympics. Only one man qualified in that heat.

I was not that man.

At any rate, my running days came to an end sometime after that. I did run a Half-Marathon in South Bend a bit later, but that’s the closest I got to running again.

So, I’m starting to run again. I’d like to run the Park Forest Scenic 10 on Labor Day this year.

Time will tell. For now, it’s time to run my ass off.

Just enjoy the trip as I struggle to get back on the trails, and run my ass off.
